In February 1983 ABC completed four months of touring around the
world. ABC played in England, Scotland, France, the USA, Canada, Finland, Sweden, Denmark,
Germany, Holland, Belgium, France, Spain and Japan.
The four members of ABC were backed by fourteen other musicians: two keyboard
players, a bassguitarist, a brass player, a trumpet player, a six-piece string section and
backing vocalist Rush Winters.
During the hectic world tour schedule the film Mantrap was completed. "File
under Espionage Thriller: Mantrap. Follow ABC on a path that leads from obscurity to
International Stardom. From London to the heart of the Soviet State. Across the stages of
some of Europe's most famous venues; towards a darker secret."
The movie was directed by Julien Temple. He also directed the Poison Arrow video
as well as the Great Rock n Roll Swindle, Mandrake and Teenage. During the making of the
movie 500 members of the ABC Charter Club helped out as 'extras' at the video shoot.
During the tour the performance in Boston USA was recorded on tape. Three of the
tracks were eventually released on the B-sides of King Without A Crown in 1987.
At the end of the world tour Martin Fry flushed his gold lame jacket down the
toilet of the Keio Plaza Hotel in Tokyo.
